Beneath S02E05: The Unmade City
The investigators pursued the Scribe through the Labyrinth. After discovering that the glyphs drawn by the Scribe in his victim tattoos were waymarkers for different portals, the group travelled to a previous era before the modern city was structured. There, they were challenged by the locals to prove that they were not monsters, and the investigators defeated their challengers in a trial of wits, by answering riddles. The people of this time told them a man resembling the Scribe had travelled here, taking a young woman with him. He had left an old bronze watch behind, which was engraved with the year '1921'.
The investigators found a portal to 1921. Alix bought herself a fetching green suit and hat, and Angus bought a nice top hat. While the party was shopping, Rufus searched for clues, finding evidence that the Scribe, Zala Crestgrave, and Lucy Archivist, the influencer from the modern era, had passed this way.
Rather than searching for further clues in 1921, the investigators returned to the Labyrinth. There, they searched for the Labyrinth in the Unmade City, the structure at the bottom of the Labyrinth that had once existed, and now did not. After entering a world of shadows, the investigators met the Scribe in a sunken cathedral, performing a religious ceremony. Angus learned that the Scribe was like him: an undead revenant.
And all of the Scribe's victims were around him, alive.
Rufus persuaded the young women that the Scribe intended to murder them, by showing them evidence. Alix also assisted with this. As the women fled, Angus and Rufus battled the Scribe until he discorporated. As the Unmade City sank into Tenebra, the group and the young women fled through the Labyrinth.
They emerged into daylight. As they paused to recover from their harrowing ordeal, Angus noticed that this place was very familiar. It was from the time when he had been alive...
