Blueleaf S01E01: The Case of the Poor Dead Dog
A new case for the detective agency, for detectives Dox, Stonks and Randall to investigate!
Magrim Silverpike, a rich society lady, arrived at the agency in tears. Her poor son, Rufus, had been found dead in Auburn Park, chewed open by some horrible creature, and the police had refused to help. Dox calmed her down, and learned that Rufus was in fact an Elven Russet Hound, rather than a child. He accepted the case, and promised Magrim that her boy's death would be investigated.
The detectives visited the Highleaf Veterinary Park, a pleasant vet run by an elven clan, and examined Rufus's poor body on the slab. They learned that:
- Rufus had been attacked from above by some predator, probably something in an animal/hominin hybrid form. Stonks deduced this to be a were-creature.
- A strange blue flower was found within Rufus's corpse, still alive and growing despite being in a dead dog in a freezer for a two days.
Dox had some connections to the occultist researches in the Amaranthine Library, where his Darrow contact, an occult biologist Brian Bronzemail, was eager to review the strange plant. Bronin promised to call when he had more information about the plant.
Next, the detectives visited Auburn Park, and examined the spot where Rufus died. A homeless man in a trench coat studied them from a distance.
Some strange blue flowers were found growing in the park. Randall used his psychometry, and saw Rufus getting excited by something and running into the forested area where a were-rat attacked him above. The rat had been infected by a strange plant and was covered in strange blue flowers growing out of his hair and eye sockets.
Stonks, with his monster hunting prowess, deduced that the wererat must be starving due to his strange biological infection, and had used a were-creature power to summon poor Rufus to him for food.
Suddenly, the homeless man growled, transformed into a rat and attacked the detectives. He was quickly fought off, and the wererat sprinted into the woods.
