Nightchildren S01E01 - Ghost Squad
Lacey Barlowe summoned her daughter, Lillith, a lamia. She was putting together a small taskforce to deal with problems around the town of Middleton. And this would be a perfect opportunity for the prospective Barlowe family heir to demonstrate her skills of leadership. Assigned to this task force was Frank Stover, a werewolf, and Jack Clockhart, a construct. Lillith explained the job was to stop a group of ghost hunters from investigating the old Thorne mansion, a place cursed and filled with dark spirits that the supernatural families of Middleton had agreed to leave alone.
The ghost hunters were YouTubers from the Ghost Squad team. They were:
- Chase Brennan. The frontman for the group, he was a handsome, athletic young man.
- Mina Okafor. The researcher for the group, a bit goth. On the show she always played the skeptic.
- Derek Williams. The tech/camera guy. Good at setting the environment to make things seem more spooky.
- Tiffy Ng. The psychic. On the show, she's always talking about the vibrations and spooky feelings she gets. Often displays psychometry. "I can see a little girl down the corridor. Can anyone else see her? No? Well, she wants us to come for her."
Jack and Lillith met and decided the best way was to stop Ghost Squad from even getting to the Thorne Mansion in the first place. They went to the Ranch Hotel, one of the top hotels in town with a cowboy vibe. Lillith called up her friends, and they pretended to be superfans of the group, escorting them through town. Lillith got Chase so drunk he couldn't even get up the next morning.
Meanwhile Jack used his powers to bypass hotel security. He found Derek in the van and chatted with him. Derek mentioned that Mina, the real brains behind the group, had received a tip-off about the strangeness of Middleton. And she was excited to blow the lid off the town's secrets.
Coordinating with Lillith, Jack stole the team's van and drove it into a river, damaging all their equipment. Meanwhile, Lillith drove Ghost Squad around town, pointing out how dull and mundane it was. As she did this, Mina grew more and more annoyed. Having heard about Mina's tip, Jack tried to break into her room and hack into her laptop, but couldn't get past Mina's IT security.
In the end, Ghost Squad was delayed from investigating the Thorne Mansion due to the loss of their van. The Sheriff assisted by keeping Ghost Squad tangled up with red tape.
Lillith and Jack reconvened and decided that they needed a better solution to the Ghost Hunters—but what was it? Lillith thought she might seek out the Rookwoods for sorcerous aid, after both she and Jack decided not to resort to violent ends..
