Beneath S01E01: The Lightshow
While at home, Alix hears Otis, the host of a pirate radio station who often broadcasts strange events around the city. Some are like small phenomena, like glowing bricks, and other times Otis predicts more grandiose events that don’t occur.
Tonight, Otis talked about a strange lightshow that could only be seen within one of the city’s old rings of standing stones. Otis cautioned that viewers may need a lead mask to view the lights properly, but he wasn’t sure. Alix said goodbye to her girlfriend, Samantha. Samantha ha had a chronic illness and requires regular blood transfusions from Alix. Alix set out to view the light show. She went to the university and retrieved a lead mask from the old radiology department.
Meanwhile, two secret government agents were also listening to the broadcast. This was Rufus, a wolverine werebest, and Angus, a revenant. The two went to also check out the broadcast. Rufus retrieved bunch of old lead masks from within the warehouse.
Alix arrived first and joined the crowd around the standing stones. She put on her lead mask and waited. Then, the sky turned red, drowning out the night sky.
When Rufus and Angus arrive, they saw something in the shadows, watching the people. Before they could get there, the shadowy creature grabbed some other civilians and drained their souls. But the creature seemed especially interested in Alix. It went up and clawed her, drawing blood. It licked its claws.
Alix fled. Rufus fired at the creature, but his handgun had little effect. He shifted into wolverine form and clawed at its back.
It threw Rufus off and kept chasing Alix. Angus moved in and grabbed the creature and soul-drained it. Angus was overwhelmed with strange memories of an ancient race of people bowing before him. A strange hunger roiled within him. Angus was also aware that the creature, an undead, had a particular hunger for Alix’s blood.
The creature escaped Angus’s grip and tried to flee into Tenebra, the Underworld. Angus called upon the power of nature and immoblised the creature with vines. The creature collapsed into shadow, defeated.
Angus thought the undead would return but may take a month or more to reform itself.
Meanwhile, Alix fled home. Angus stopped her, told her he was a government agent, and took her to the hospital. He cautioned her not to speak of her arcane experience to the public. And he gave her his card, urging her to speak to him when she recovered.
Alix went home and tried to get over her horrifying experience by spending time with Samantha. The evening of the following day, she went to the Division to learn more.
