Zeitgeist S01E04: Breakfast at Timpany's
After having round up the gang making illicit alchemical narcotics, the members of the Vigil returned to the office. A halfling lawyer, Borrin Boskin (from Boskin & Associates, Criminal Attorneys) arrived to represent the Waryeyes, and ensure that they would be smoothly processed through Flint's justice system. Borrin handed out a card, and seemed quite friendly.
Meanwhile:
- Mickey had received an invitation to brunch, (which the group joked to be from a mysterious admirer).
- Bram continued to work on his badger enclosure at the back of the office.
- As Tahl'zair travelled into work that day from House Stormshore's island at Pine Island, he was given a mysterious mirror by an elven woman. Her face was concealed by a fringed shawl, and she wore antlers. She said the mirror was a gift from the Old Stag. Her message was: "The Unseen Court is watching. Take this mirror, and when you see the face of our enemies within it, bring them down and we shall reward you."
- Sora bought delicious pastries for everyone.
- Robert was interrogated and maintained by his creator, Doctor Vokharis.
Then, they headed out into the city to continue the investigation.
They visited Borrin Boskin and discovered that he was a legitimate criminal attorney, if not as grand as he had originally appeared. He operated out of a small office with his halfling clan acting as his associates. He gave the investigators a card, and told them to call upon him in future.
The group went to the fancy cafe, Timpany's, near the waterfront, where they met Morgan, a red-haired lady who had taken a liking to Mickey. And she also claimed to be a high-ranking crime lord in the Twelfth Family network. She suggested the Vigil consider her an ally and resource and dropped a few titbits of information, in that:
Lorcan Fell, mob boss of the Fell Guild, was actually seeking to destabilise the Empire, rather than maintain the status quo (as one would expect of the city's main crime lord). Morgan said Fell's motivation was because he was one of the bastard sons of the old Bloodstone Emperor, who had committed suicide when his invasion of Arachkaea failed.
The Twelfth Family weren't just any old criminal syndicates, but rather deniable assets connected to the Reladonian government, who sought to keep the Empire stable, and were therefore worthy allies of the Bloodstone Vigil. They had expanded their influence in Flint quickly by hiring other criminal gangs and subcontracting.
Morgan paid for the expensive lunch and suggested that she'd be in touch.
Next, the group went to visit Sechim's Alkahest & Etchings factory, where Nilasa had worked before her unfortunate death. Heward Sechim, the factory owner, confirmed that Nilasa had worked there, and confirmed that Nilasa had met Gale, the eladrin terrorist, through his father Nevard, who was a powerful skyseer. And that Nevard could arrange an introduction to Gale. The investigators took Heward up on his offer, and journeyed through the wilderness in the Cloudwood, to where the elderly mystic remained in a retreat in his circle of stones.
As they travelled, they were accosted by bandits.
The investigators defeated the bandits and found that they were working for the Fell Guild. After gathering evidence from the bodies, they continued on into the wilderness to find Nevard.
