Zeitgeist S01E05: Cauldron of Fear
After defeating the brigands, the members of the Bloodstone Vigil arrived at Nevard's retreat in the mountain, surrounded by an ancient stone circle. Mickey identified several military veterans in the group. All were dedicated to protecting Nevard Sechem, the dying sky seer.
The Vigil asked Nevard to introduce them to Gale. Nevard agreed, but with one condition: they arrange for him to visit the top of Cauldron Hill, where he might have a clear vision of the future. In recent years, divinations around the area had become increasingly hard and inaccurate, whether due to the mystical circumstances around the ascension of the Drakkencrown Emperor, or the industrialisation in the area.
Except, Cauldron Hill was cursed with foul monsters and wicked spirits, and was basically a death sentence to enter after dark. Only wards kept the horrors in check, and these were controlled by Rory Macbannin, the mayor of Cloudwood. The Vigil would have to get parts of the wards to enter the Hill, escort Nevard to the top and fight off monsters until dawn.
All in a day's work. The Vigil agreed, and sought permission of Rory Macbannin to enter Cauldron Hill. He agreed, and told them stories of how paladins of Reladon had cleansed the area centuries earlier. He showed them his collection of historical artefacts relating to the paladins, although his enthusiasm for the genocide of the eladrin made Tahl'zair uncomfortable. Sora was irritated by the voices of spirits bound to the ward: a chorus of fanatics praising Reladon.
The group was given the wards, and they escorted Nevard to Cauldron Hill. There, they protected the skyseer from monsters such as living shadows and serpent-maned lions. When dawn struck, the shadows retreated, and Nevard had seen his vision. However, he needed time process it and so the Vigil returned to their duties.
